Privacy Policy
meemo (“we,” “us,” or “our”) sets out this Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) regarding how we handle users’ information in the macOS application “Meemo AI” (the “App”) and on this website (together with the App, the “Service”).
The App is designed to be local-first: recordings, transcripts and similar data are, in principle, stored only on the user’s Mac. Information is sent externally only when the user enables a cloud-connected feature.

2. Information We Handle
2-1. In the App
The App primarily handles the following information on the user’s device. It is not sent to our servers.
- Transcripts generated from the microphone and from audio playing on the computer (system audio)
- Recorded audio files
- History of questions to / answers from the AI
- Glossary entries and settings configured by the user
- When calendar integration is enabled, retrieved event information (event name, time, attendees, etc.)
This data is stored in on-device locations such as under ~/Library/Application Support/ and can be deleted by the user. Authentication tokens for integrations are stored in the macOS Keychain.
2-2. On the Website
- Access logs (IP address, browser type, referrer, access date/time, etc.)
- Information you provide when contacting us (name, email address, content, etc.)
- Browser local storage used to remember your language preference (
meemo_lang) - If paid plans are offered in the future, information necessary for payment (handled via the payment provider)
3. Purposes of Use
- To provide, maintain and improve the Service
- To perform features the user selects, such as transcription, summarization and AI consultation
- To respond to inquiries, verify identity, and send important notices
- To prevent misuse and ensure security
- To bill and process payments for paid plans
4. External Transmission / Third-Party Services
The App sends information to the following external services only when the user enables the relevant feature. Each can be disabled by default or run on-device, so a configuration that sends nothing externally is possible. Handling by each service follows that provider’s privacy policy.

When a cloud AI is used via “subscription authentication” (e.g., the claude CLI), information is handled under your contract and terms with that provider.
5. Provision to Third Parties
We do not provide acquired personal data to third parties except in the following cases:
- With the user’s consent
- Where required by law
- Where necessary to protect the life, body or property of a person and it is difficult to obtain consent
- Where we entrust handling to the external services above or to subcontractors, to the extent necessary to provide the Service
6. Retention and Deletion
- Data within the App is stored on the user’s device and can be deleted by the user at any time through in-app actions (such as deleting a session). Deleting a session also deletes its associated audio file.
- Website access logs and similar data are retained for a necessary period and then appropriately erased or anonymized.
7. Security Measures
We take necessary and appropriate measures to prevent leakage, loss or damage of the information we handle and otherwise to manage it securely. Authentication credentials for integrations are stored in the device’s Keychain, and calendar integration requests read-only permission for events.
8. Cross-Border Transfer
When the user enables a cloud AI or external service, information may be processed on servers located in the recipient provider’s country (which may be outside Japan). Matters such as the legal systems of those countries follow each provider’s terms.
9. Your Rights
Users may request disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, and the like with respect to their own personal data held by us. Please contact us at the address above. We will respond in accordance with applicable law after verifying identity.
10. Cookies / Analytics
This website uses browser local storage to provide functionality, and also uses Google Analytics (Google LLC) to understand and improve usage. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect site usage information (pages viewed, time on site, IP address, device information, etc.). This is handled in accordance with Google’s privacy policy. We do not use third-party cookies for advertising purposes.
To opt out, reject cookies in your browser settings or use Google’s “Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.”
11. Minors
Minors should use the Service only with the consent of a parent or guardian.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy in response to changes in law or the Service. We will announce material changes by posting on this website or by other means.
